OVERALL AWARD WINNER - 'The Beginner Housewife' By Elaine Ryan, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology

Winner of the People Category, Elaine Ryan was awarded the overall prize for her image 'The Beginner Housewife.The judges were impressed with the portrait's sophistication, use of colour and the way it captures a moment in time with an air of mystery.Elaine, who is a third year degree student (BA Photography), shot the image on a Hasselblad camera. She said "My portrait is looking at the isolation of old age, reflecting loneliness and inevitable death. It shows an old housewife whose work is now done." Elaine, who aims to become a professional photographer, was delighted with her award. Her tutor, Daniel DeChenu, was also thrilled to be the winning tutor for the second year running. Last year, his student Daniel White was the overall winner.

PEOPLE CATEGORY The People Category was sponsored by Paterson Photographic Ltd The UK Distributor for the Olmec range of photo quality papers.

THE PRIZES All Category Winners were awarded with £250 cash plus a selection of photographic accessories including Lowepro Compu Trekker bags and Manfrotto tripods. The overall winner Elaine Ryan was presented with an additional £2,000 cash plus tripod and lighting equipment from Paterson Photographic - UK distributor of the Olmec range of photo papers. The winning college was presented with £500 worth of Olmec imaging products.
